UPDATE – February 2010

The Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’ Celtic Society continues with our mandate of supporting our community.  We have recently donated to the Cardiac Care Unit at Sick Children’s Hospital and About Face, a charity for children with deformed faces in need of special operations.

Our yearly membership meeting for elections will be held on Thursday March 4th, starting at 7:00 p.m. at Seanachai’s Irish Pub 1106 Danforth Avenue near Greenwood.

Presently we are gearing up for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade which takes place on Sunday March 14th.  The poster for the parade is attached to this update.  Last year was our best turn out ever and everyone who attended had a great time

Following the march we will again continue with music and festivities throughout the day at Grace O’Malley’s pub on Duncan Street just south of the Adelaide Street fire hall.

Our Christmas Dance at the Balmy Beach Club this year was another great success and we are planning another event there in the spring.  We are also making tentative plans for another fund raiser for Camp Bucko in the fall.

The Celtic Society is very proud of our relationship with the Toronto Fire Services Pipe Band.  This year they will be travelling to Holland to mark the 65th anniversary of that countries liberation during the war.

In closing, the Celtic Society has donated close to $25,000 in our first few years of operation.  We do this by selling t-shirts and hosting charitable evenings.  Remember we are all about being more involved in our community. We ask everyone to continue their support by buying a t-shirt and showing up for our charitable and community events.

Thanks again, and we hope to see you all soon.

UPDATE - October 28, 2009

The Celtic Society has to date donated over $15,000.00 since our inception four years earlier.  This year we contributed to the restoration wall at the Ontario Fire Fighter's Memorial at Queen's Park, Camp Bucko, and recently another $3,000.00 to the Sick Children's Hospital, Cardiac Care Unit.  We still will be making donations to a special children's charity for disfigured children and also some funding will be going to our great Pipe Band who are always there for us.

We remind all members that the Rememberance Day ceremonies are upcoming on November 11th.  The Celtic Society will be attending the East York service along with our Pipe Band.  Please check the Association web site for times and locations.  The least we can do is be there to show our appreciation and thank those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

The annual Christmas Dance is again taking place on November 20th at the Balmy Beach Club.  Last year was sold out, so get your tickets early.  Posters have been sent out to the halls and the tickets are available now. (see attached poster).

Celtic Society t-shirts for the 2010 year are now on order and will be available by the end of November.  Go to the website, download the application form and get in touch with one of our executive members.  Remember 100% of all monies received go toward a charity. We look forward to everyone's continued support and thank you for your past participation and membership.  We hope to make this year our largest in membership and participation.

Thanks again,

John and Mike

Update – February 17, 2009

The Celtic Society is now gearing up for the Toronto St. Patrick’s Day Parade which takes place on Sunday March 15th.  A notice has gone out from the local, and the stewards are carrying the message for all to come out and have a great day.  Fire Fighters from across the province have shown even more interest in attending and we are hoping that this year will be our best turn out ever.  Following the parade the Association will issue t-shirts to those who participated in the parade along with a few drink tickets.  Music and festivities continue throughout the day at Grace O’Malley’s pub on Duncan Street, just south of the Adelaide Street fire hall.  Each year we are getting more and more fire fighters participating making this one of the biggest events of the year for the Society and the Local.  Make an effort to come out and enjoy a great day.

Our yearly membership meeting for elections will be held on Thursday March 5th, starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10, located at 1083 Pape Avenue, just south of O’Connor Drive.

In closing, we have been very pleased with our first three years of the Celtic Society.  In that time we have raised and donated close to $10,000.00 for children’s charity and our pipe band.  Remember the Celtic Society is all about being more involved in our community, friends and family.

Thanks again and we hope to see you all soon.
